• 1 pc – hardback book

• 1 pc – SPDT (Single pole double throw) on-on push button switch
• 4 pcs – #6 x 1/4″ (6.4 mm) self-tapping sheet metal screws
• 1 pc – 3/4″ (19 mm) wide brass hinge
• 1 pc – Lutron Credenza lamp dimmer. This is can be replaced with an extension cord.
• 2 pcs – short pieces of shrink tubing
• A roll of rubber tape
• A small zip tie

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Book

1. Choose a Hardback Book: Select a book that blends well with others on your shelf, ensuring it is not too thin.
2. Hollow Out the Book: Carefully cut a compartment within the pages of the Book to house the switch mechanism. Leave a few pages uncut at the beginning and end to maintain its book-like appearance.

Step 2: Install the Switch and Hinge

1. Mount the SPDT Switch: Position the SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) switch inside the hollowed-out Book. Use the sharpie to mark the screw locations, then pre-drill holes for the self-tapping screws.
2. Attach the Brass Hinge: Secure the hinge to the back cover of the Book with screws, allowing it to open and close like a door. Ensure the hinge is mounted discreetly for a seamless look.

Step 3: Prepare the Aluminum Bar

1. Cut the Aluminum Bar: Measure and cut the aluminum bar to a length that fits comfortably inside the spine of the Book. This Bar will act as the lever for the switch.
2. Attach the Bar to the Switch: Drill a small hole at one end of the aluminum bar. Connect it to the SPDT switch using a small zip tie, ensuring it can pivot to activate the switch.
