If you have some spare pieces of plywood, why not dive into it right now? The tutorial says you can easily create this zigzag bookshelf in 60 minutes. This project isn’t overly expensive. If you buy a zigzag bookshelf from the store, this will probably cost you about a hundred bucks.

Materials you will need for this zigzag bookshelf:

  • At least a quarter of a plywood sheet, 96″ long x 12″ wide x 3/4″ thick
  • At least 60 1.25″ brads for the nail gun
  • Wood glue
  • Sandpaper

Tools:

  • Table saw
  • Nail gun

Steps:

First, we need to cut the pieces for our zigzag bookshelf. We will be using a 96″ long plywood sheet, so we will need to cut it into 16 equal pieces that are 6″ wide. This will give us the necessary pieces to create our zigzag bookshelf.

Once we have cut the pieces to size, we will need to clean up the edges by sanding. It is important to take the time to sand down the edges of your woodworking project pieces in order to achieve a smooth, professional finish. This extra step will pay off in the overall look and quality of your finished product.

Next, pick 3 pcs of the board and assemble the first layer of the zigzag bookshelf! You can do this by attaching 2 parts perpendicular to each other on the short end of the board. The other piece should be placed at the back part of the shelf! To do this you can first use wood glue, then secure them with a nail gun.

Next, do the second layer, following the same process as the first layer. However, the perpendicular boards should be on the opposite side, creating a zigzag design. Continue this process until all of the boards have been used.

For the next three layers, continue alternating the placement of the vertical boards so that an “S” shaped pattern emerges. This will give you a great zigzag bookshelf! When you are done with the process, you should have a 5 layers zigzag bookshelf. You can then opt to paint it or give it a clear finish.
