When it comes to filling out your pallet planter basket, Wave Petunias are always a great option. Talking about pallets – when it comes to creating your very own pallet planter box, safety is key! Don’t let toxic pallets ruin your plant party – choose wisely.

If you are unsure how to distinguish safe from toxic pallets, there are a few key things to look for. Toxic pallets are usually made from treated wood that has been infused with chemicals.

These chemicals have the potential to seep into the soil and, eventually, make their way into your plants. Conversely, safe pallets are constructed from untreated wood. Ensure you can discern between safe and toxic pallets.

If you can’t get your hands on some vintage pallets or you’re unsure of their origin, fear not! You can always opt for pine or cedar timber. Strut boldly, for these robust materials can bear your weight with class!

Though pine might seem like a promising option for your upcoming woodworking endeavour, it’s worth noting that if durability is your priority, pine may not be your top choice. It’s no secret that pine is more susceptible to decay and annoying bugs. In contrast, cedar represents a sturdier alternative that will provide greater longevity.

This flower box is not just an easy project you can do for your yard, it is also a great DIY gift idea you can make for your friends and family! With just a few supplies and some simple instructions, you can create a beautiful and personalized gift that will be cherished for years to come.

Steps

Step 1: Choose and Prepare the Pallet

  • Select a pallet that’s in good condition, ensuring it’s free from chemicals. Mark the dimensions you desire for your planter box on the pallet. Use the circular saw to cut along these marks, separating the pallet into three sections: one for the back and two for the sides.

Step 2: Create the Planter Box Frame

  • Assemble the pallet sections into a rectangular frame, securing them with 2 1/2″ wood screws. This forms the basic structure of your planter box.

Step 3: Add a Weed Guard

  • Line the interior of the planter box with a weed guard to prevent unwanted growth. Trim any excess material as needed.

Step 4: Drill Drainage Holes

  • Using the cordless drill and 2″ hole saw attachment, create drainage holes in the bottom of the planter box. These holes will help maintain proper soil moisture levels.

Step 5: Fill and Plant

  • Begin by adding a layer of packing peanuts (optional) to the bottom of the planter box for drainage and to reduce the amount of potting mix needed. Combining some potting mix with Soil Moist and watch your precious plants thrive with hydrated delight. Plant your chosen flowers or herbs, ensuring they’re well-spaced and properly arranged.
