Succulent Balls

Want a green decor idea that will surely look stunning in your garden? This easy succulent ball project with succulents is one of our favourites!

Succulents are a type of plant that has thick, fleshy leaves or stems, which help them to store water. They are native to dry areas of the world, such as deserts, and are adapted to survive in harsh conditions.

Succulents are a popular choice for indoor plants, as they are easy to care for and require little water. There are many different types of succulents, with a wide range of colours, shapes, and sizes.

There are many ways you can decorate your home with succulents. You can hang them to give life to an empty, lonely corner. Or you can also make a very large version and make it “stand” to decorate a part of your garden. Whichever way you choose to display them, they are sure to bring some life and colour into your home.

You’ll need these materials:

  • 2pcs – Wire Hanging Baskets
  • Strong Wire or Chains
  • Succulents (such as Sempervivum chicks)
  • Potting Soil (Sunshine mix #4)
  • Smaller Wire (for tying the two baskets)
  • Plywood
  • Toothpick
  • Coco Liner

And this tool:

  • Wire Cutter

How to make a succulent ball?

First, you need to put a coco liner on each of the wire hanging baskets. In order to ensure your plants have the best chance to thrive, it is important to take some key preparatory steps. This includes putting a coco liner on each of the wire hanging baskets. This will help to retain moisture.

Next, be sure to fill the baskets with high-quality potting soil. This will ensure that your plants have the nutrients they need to thrive. After putting potting soil in the baskets, join the 2 baskets together to make a sphere (ball) using the smaller wire. This will create a sturdy frame for your hanging planter.

Before you start planting into your sphere planter, create hanging hooks or chains using strong wires or chains. Make sure the hanging hook and chain will be able to carry the weight of the sphere planter when hanged.

This will ensure that your planter will stay put and not fall and break. If you’re unsure about the weight capacity of the hooks or chains you’re using, err on the side of caution and go for a stronger option. It’s better to be safe than sorry, after all.

Finally, once you have your sphere planter and coco liner ready, you can start planting your succulents. To do this, poke a hole in the coco liner with a toothpick for each plant. Make sure the holes are big enough for the plant’s roots to fit through. Gently press the plant into the hole to secure the plant. Repeat this process until all your plants are in the planter.
